Subiaco has a long and unique history in the theatre and arts with the iconic Regal Theatre being a symbol and testament to this tradition.
The Regal theatre, built in 1937 and opening on 27th April 1938, is one of Subiaco’s and even Perth’s great icons. Situated on Subiaco’s main intersection of Hay St and Rokeby Rd and its Art Deco architectural style is one of the few in Perth. After originally being opened as a cinema it was converted into a live performance theatre in 1977 and still today showcases a wide variety of entertainment including musicals, plays, comedy and more.

The Subiaco Arts Centre is located in the picturesque Theatre Gardens behind the council administration building just off Rokeby Rd. This facility was converted from the town hall into a performing arts centre in 1984 and is now host to a range of entertainment and exhibitions. The centre is also home to the Barking Gecko Theatre Company, putting together works that aim to make theatre more accessible and appealing to the younger generation and families.
